Hey everyone, I am looking for a device that will let me put the CPU into the socket on the motherboard without using my hands on the actual CPU. Something like a suction cup holder or something along those lines. I've been looking all over the interweb and haven't been able to find anything so I am coming here for help. Thanks in advance for anything you guys can do.
 
No its really stupid but the guy I work for FLIPS out every time I try to put a CPU in with my hand and now he's insisting that I go look for suction cups to put them in so our hands don't have to come in contact with them :rolleyes:. Did I mention he's a little left of center?
 
Yeah, there is one. Use an anti static glove. Also, tell your boss that he has a problem. There is nearly zero risk with installing a processor with your bare hands.
 
Try handling the CPU with a loop of masking tape or Scotch tape on your finger.

Tell your boss to seek professional help, and lay off the crack pipe.
 
Wear a vinyl glove.

Seriously having the Vacuum let go, and dropping the processor <<<<<<< touching the processor.
 
Static is rarely an issue nowadays.

However, finger grease contaminant is. If you are obsessive like I am, I never touch the bottom (makes common sense to not touch the gold contacts) OR the top of the processor with my bare hands.

I like to have a perfect Arctic silver pasted top, with no finger grease.

But how many people can't hold a chip on its edges? Its a pretty easy thing to do. Hence, I also use my bare hands.
 
I always dip my fingers in 91% isopropyl or pure methanol b4 handing a chip. Sometimes I even bathe the whole chip in it if I've touched the pins.
 
In general, for things such as these (specialized for the industry), chances are, DigiKey has it.
 
Hospitalize the man and look for a work place with a slightly less FUBARed boss....:rolleyes:

That would most certainly leave glue residues on it...

I'd suggest ESD- gloves if you're really serious about a clean environment, but I think it's a bit obsessive. However, it could be a real god idea to clean the contact surface with some alcohol or something that desolves fat (From the fingers that is), allowing you to have a clean surface. Then gently applying a grease of your choice...

Some of you're going to sh-t bricks now, but ordinary axis-grease works just fine. The oxide commonly used are ofcourse better, but only at higher temps.
Just thought that it would 'tick' someone off a bit :eek:
