Do retail cards overclock better than oem ?

same. my XL from actbuy is coming today. i got it when it was $387. I like retail because when it comes time to sell it on ebay, retail boxed cards always get 5-10 dollars more than without box. Plus it feels nice to have a shiny retail box when your paying so much money already.

Buying a new card today and want to know if retail is worth the extra 10-20 bucks.
My guess is it's the same but I'm always neurotic about these things.

In order to make a definite statement on this problem, a large sample size will be needed. I really doubt that any one person at the [H]-forums has enough video cards both retail and OEM in order to make such a statement.

From an 'educated guess' standpoint: I really do not think that companies screen their cards for overclocking before deciding whether to put them in the retail or OEM channel. For that reason, I do not think that there is going to be a significant difference in overclocking potential between OEM and Retail cards.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer.... if you're buying an OEM card it basically means that you're going to get JUST the card... no box, no cables, no driver CD, and probably no manual.

As for getting a built by ATi card vs a competitive brand using the ATi specs... I'd go with a competitive brand. They offer better software bundles, added features, quieter/more powerful cooling solutions, and overclocking capability. Depends on the manufacturer really.
