im wondering if the reason my 8800gts 640 mb cant run hellgate london @ full specs @1900x1200 with all the eye candy without a crash or becoming a slide show is becuase my monitor is 27 inches.. would it be easier for the card if i have a slightly smaller montior?? i really dont understand why there is a problem with this kind of card.. im not even running the game in dx10 which by the way makes the game into a slideshow any suggestions?

Its the resolution, not the size of the monitor.

GTS's are not built to put out high frames at high resolutions. The GTX's and the Ultra's are.

Drop your resolution to get more FPS, or drop some of the eye candy, or upgrade your card. Those are the only options, maybe a CPU replacement might help but at that resolution a new video card would be a better fit.

large monitors are great, i love my 24 and like you its sort of a pain with native resolutions at 1920 x 1200 but the size is just worth it

Hellgate runs poorly for one, and for another, it's the res, not the size. 1900x1200 pushes that crappy game engine pretty hard.

Yes it is your monitor. I have a 22incher i will cross ship to you, guaranteed to run perfectly.

The GTS640mb is for high resolution.

No, it's not. The GTX is. The Ultra is. The GTS is not. Certianly not 19x12. 16x10, or 16x12, sure. But Hellgate is also a fairly resource intensive game, and you're talking about having all the eye candy on.

You want highest-end performance from card that is NOT high-end. With the 8800GT out now, you can hardly consider it mid-high. is it a beefy card? For sure. No doubt. But 19x12 is also a very high res. I'm sorry, but if you're expecting to max out today's games at high resolutions, go buy yourself a GTX or an Ultra. A GTS won't do it.

GTS "NOT high-end" what the hell? It might not be THE top of the line but when it was released it was the next best performing video card that you could get.It certainly wasn't a "mid-ranged" card when it was released.

When the GTS was released it was the second best video card out at the time nothing even compared to it other than the GTX which was only a slightly better card. You are comparing newer technology (GT and ULTRA) vs something thats atleast 3 months older than what you are comparing it to.

Go look at tomshardware.com and look at the VGA charts. All of the games they list are very much playable at 35FPS+ at 1920x1200 with all the eye candy on. Yeah you are right it didn't out perform the GTX or the ULTRA but it isn't supposed to.

If you wanna take another look, look at it from the ATi point of view. You are going to tell me that a 2900XT which is supposed to be competing with the GTX/ULTRA from nVidia that it is a better card than the GTS/GT because it is a Top of the line "High-end" card from ATi even though ATi is getting beat by a cheaper video card in the benchmarks?

Your logic doesn't make much sense.

GTS is not high end. It doesn't matter when it was released. My 6800GT sitting under my bed used to be top of the line when it was released. Used to. Same with my 9800 pro. Why can't they run Hellgate at high resolutions? They were top of the line when they were released! This is ridiculous!

when it was released was a year ago. it's not high end when comparing it against the newest games (which hellgate certainly is). Don't expect to run the newest most graphically intensive games at one of the highest resolutions available on a card that was middle of the high end a year ago.
Don't get me wrong, its a great card. Runs all of last years games amazingly, but the new games are starting to make it show its age sadly.

I believe it is your logic that does not make sense. Expecting last years tech to run the newest games with full details.
lol. poeple crack me up.
Everyone expects everything. I guess i'm grounded in reality because i've never had a top end card. I always go for the bang/buck cards.

When the GTS and GTX were released they were high end cards and they were made to run games with all the eye candy and at the highest resolution possible and currently there isnt another card out right now that will out perform the GTS/GTX/ULTRA.

So you are telling me when a card is released and it is the best of the best for example the GTX/GTS are released they are the top end cards on the market. A year passes and still no new technology is on the market as of yet.
If they still arn't high end what do you call them then?

They would still be considered the current top-end cards.

So what other option do you have for your high end card?

You have no other option to get a better performing card other than you guessed it the GTX/ULTRA/GTS

Yes I agree I do not believe that any videocard will last forever I know and I understand that but as of right now the ULTRA is the #1 the GTX is the #2 and the GTS is the 3rd best performing card on the market right now and the "top end" series of video cards right now is the 8800 series which the GTS is in. The better question is where are you seemingly drawing the line for "top end".
