Do I need the HDD to play Halo 2 on my 360?

I still haven't played Halo 2 and was thinking about picking it up for my 360 but I don't have a HDD do I need one to play it. Also does Halo 2 look any better on the 360 i.e. more AA, AF or can it play it in high definition
 
Yes you do need the harddrive for all backwards compatibilty. And yes they did add AA not sure about AF.
 
Really,I thought I read somewhere that you don't need the HDD for Halo 1 and 2
