Do I need sli?

Ill be building a new rig and I wasnt sure whether to get a sli mobo or not. Right now, ill "only" be using a 7900gt, but i was wondering in the future if i was going to use a worse card such as a 6800 for physics. What do you think? Ill probably just keep selling and getting better cards, not going sli (unless the physics).

What do you think?
 
I would get a non SLI mobo and then consider getting either an SLI mobo or PPU for physics when they are actually used.
 
alright. Dun dun dun, here it comes... which one? DFI ultra d? I need a good ocer with the opty 165.

Also, I guess I could mod that to sli if i wanted. Im going to be changing the mobo when quad core comes out so ill probably get a sli mobo then.
 
A 7900Gt can only be matched up with another 7900GT. If you use an additional card for 'physics' it'd be best to use a 'physics' card, and they use a standard PCI slot rather than a PCI-E slot.

Best 'rule of thumb' to use is to get an SLI mobo and to match it up with the best single card you can afford. That's purchasing for 'value' and there are very few 'value points' at which it's better to buy two lesser cards rather than a single better card.

But you never know your luck, and it just might be that another card comes your way for a really bargain price. If so it's added value, whether it be for your own use or for improving the machine to onsell it. If not, the extra slot doesn't hurt anything just by being there.
 
id get the ultra D i know someone who has one though im not entirely sure they support opterons officially hes using a 148 venice oc'd to 3Ghz and it runs smooth as glass. and no i wouldnt go sli i would rather wait and get a actual physx card or wait till nvidia perfects the drivers i heard they will be writing to make a sli card only calculate physx
