Do I need matching monitors for Eyefinity?

Right now I have a Dell 2405fpw. Do I need to run 3 of these to use Eyefinity? I'm thinking about buying 2 of these to go along with it if I don't.

If I do have to have the same monitor I'm thinking of just putting the Dell on eBay and using that cash to buy 2 of the Asus monitors and paying for the third myself through craigslist for 120.00. The Dells go for almost 300 apiece which is out of my price range. What should I do?

No you don't need matching monitors (i.e. exact same model) but it is preferable to get three monitors of the same resolutions that fit neatly enough into the resolutions AMD supports.

Otherwise prudence dictates getting the exact same model depending on what you do because of differences in response rates, input lag, factory color optimizations, bezel width, etc. unless you know what are doing or have the thick skin to put up with the nuances.

Matching is preferable unless you like seeing weird color/gamma/black descrepencies, or you can get a good colorimeter like the Eye One Display 2 and calibrate them for 200$,

Keep in mind the 2405fpw would have to be run at 1920x1080 if you bought those two monitors to go along with it. Eyefinity just cares about the same resolution on all monitors, models can differ.

The new ones would also likely have a bit of a lower input lag, which may or may not annoy you in games.

Also keep in mind there's a reason your monitor sells for 300 second hand, I'd go to a store and make sure you can handle the vertical viewing angle problems of TN panels like those Asus ones before you make the switch..

Just keep the resolution the same, if you're paranoid about how 3 different monitors will look, then sell the one you have and get matching ones.
