I've had a few power supplies fail in the last couple years, and I always assumed it was because I was overclocking and stressing them out. Recently, my friend pointed out that it might be because I'm not using a UPS. But before I invest in one I wanted to get some more opinions.
The facts: My current PC setup is in my sig. My Corsair has failed once before, but it was on my last system, which was overclocked. The other PSU that failed was an Antec 500 something. I'm using a surge protector, but it's at least 5-10 years old. They have failed in two apartments in two different cities. The first time it failed, I took it to Fry's to get it checked and they said it was the 5v line that failed.
So, do I really need a UPS or am I fine with a surge protector?
