Do i need a new PSU?

ok i recently got another cpu a 2.4C on a P4C800 deluxe too work as a media encoding comp. So naturally i'm gonna overclock it so it's gonna work faster.
i got it up to 3.360 ghz with like 1.625 or 1.65V i'm not sure but its not stable.
and the ram divider is at 3/2 so the ram isn't being pushed...so i'm thinking if i should get a better powersupply like a enermax with a dual rail 12V line or something would that help stabilize the cpu? and heat isn't really an issue because it's around 35C loaded on the asus temp so it's probably around 45 which still isn't that high. so what do you guys think?
and i have a geforce 6600gt on the way
thoughts??

the 12V rail don't usauly help the CPU unless it is very over-stressed but you didn't say what PSU you have now so i can't say if i think a bigger one would be worthwile.

what kind of psu do you currently have? that could help us decide whether you need a new one or not, which you probably dont.

3.360ghz out of a 2.4c is pretty good imo but i cant blame you for aiming higher :)
what you probably want to look up is the "droop mod". on some p4 mobos (yours included i think) the vcore fluctuates so badly that it causes some instability until the user raises the vcore a lot higher than it has to so that when the voltage does start flucuating that it wont hit too low. what the "droop mod" is suppose to do i think, is stabilize the voltage to the cpu. i have never applied the "droop mod" so youre gonna have to google it to find out more. and of course i hold no liabilities to any damages this mod may do :D

oh sorry about that
the board is droop modded, vdimm modded too, but i can't tell if that one works because the voltage never goes above 2.8 stupid PSU....
and of course i'm not gonna hold you liable i don't know why anyone would hold someone else responsible for doing something they know that if they did do it would void the warranty
but yea, the vcore is stable but what about the amperes, and stuff
i got this cheap ass comp usa from my friend for free
the 12v rail is at like 11.6, and teh 3.3 volt rail is at 2.9 haha right now it's like 16amps i think for the 12v rail and it's supposed to pack a whoppin 400WATTS!! total output but i'm pretty sure it's alot less because when i was putting his computer together for him his enermax was twice as heavy as this one and it was only rated with 20more watts
i only want the new PSU if it will definitely help me get more, because im kinda low on dough right now i think haven't checked my bank account lately but i just had to pay off a hefty credit bill. but i can spare 70 bucks if need be.

im not sure how accurate your mobo readings are but 2.9volts on the 3.3volt rail is not good >.> is this under load? overclocked? what happens when you run at stock settings? if your 3.3volt rail reads 2.9 under load on stock settings and its rock solid stable AND your 3.3volt rail reads 2.9volts under load when overclocked then i might not worry, though trying out a different psu wouldnt be a bad idea if possible. it would be easy to point the finger on the psu but it might not be the problem. perhaps you should try raising the voltage a bit and see if your restarting problem disappears? if not you may either be at the limit of your chip or the psu may be limiting you in which case youll have to try a different psu. but personally, 3.360 seems to be pretty ambitious (donno if intel's yields have been good lately but a 2.4c ive overclocked a while ago would barely squeak past 3ghz)

whats your goal with a new psu? if you can stable at 3.2ghz or what not with your current psu would buying a $~70 psu be worth it for a couple hundred mhz? to me it would not, but for you it might be so, in that case you probably should have gotten a 2.6c or something. as for the amperage being enough its hard to say, motherboard readings could be off dramatically and i dont want to recommend a new psu to you if your current one is fine as ~$70 is a lot imo.

i think the mobo reading is pretty close
and 11.6 is overclocked not loaded i don't think loaded it goes to 11.5 or sometimes 11.4
the 2.9 goes to 2.7 or 2.8
alright i'll try raising voltage but i don't really want too it gets hotter with alot of voltage, and my room is hot enough

i compared my multimeter reading of the 12v line with the board's and it wasn't too far off

wow 2.7  does it hit 2.7 when youre not overclocked and rock solid?

looks like youll probably need a new psu and im sorry i couldnt help you get to that conclusion sooner (i wouldnt want you to go out and buy something you dont need) :)

alright cool thanks
i wanted a new PSU but i never had a reason to warrant the buy so i've been hesitant to buy it until now
i'm in no big hurry any ways i usually order from newegg so it's not gonna get here for a few days anyhoo
the 2.9 flucuates 2.9 to 2.8 and 2.7 sometimes i've never seen it above 3 seriously and yea it seems pretty good the computer freezes up once in a while
but it could be something else...coughs...[windows]...coughs

best of luck to your overclocking adventure :D and hopefully i didnt screw you over on a psu you didnt need :)
