Do I need a New PSU?

I have a power supply from an Antec Sonata II (450 watt), that I've been using for about 3.5 years, about 14 hours a day. Now I've calculated that the PSU is strong enough for my components (specs below), and I haven't noticed anything wrong with it, but I'm just not sure that it's "safe" to use an old PSU with all new pc components. If my PSU dies, will it take out other components?

If I decide to buy a new PSU is this OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W model reliable/high end? I want something extremely reliable. Or should I just get a corsair model of similar wattage?

Thanks!

Specs: e8400@4ghz, 4 gig ram, 2 caviar blacks, ATI 4670.

well if you get a corsair psu, you wouldn't need to worry anymore. (for a long time at least)

Please post the specific model of the PSU that came with your case. And I wouldn't consider that OCZ to be high-end. Corsair is a safe bet, as are Seasonic, Antec, and Enermax to name a few.

Which 450W model do you currently have? For your system, I would consider getting a Corsair 550VX, Antec EarthWatts 500W, or BFG LS-550W.

Yeah it says Antec SmartPower 450, sp-450. Wow it has a really bad rating on newegg, 2 eggs. People seem pretty confident in Corsair, I think that's the safest bet. The 650TX and the 550VX are the same price on Newegg, 650TX cheaper with rebate. Any reason to get the 550VX?

No reason to get the VX550 if the TX650 is the same price. The TX650 is a better PSU.

Great, thanks a lot guys, going with the TX650. :D 650 watts should definitely serve my needs for a long time to come.
