Well i currently have a Corsair hx620 powering my socket 939. I plan to build a new rig running i5 or i7 and maybe SLI gtx285's or crossfire hd5850's along with about 4-5 HDD's in a CM HAF 932. Is the hx620 will be enough to power all of that?

Bought the PSU back when it first came out for $140 on a sale and surprisingly they sell range the same price haha.

Thanks in advance!

the [H] review of the hx620 revealed a maximum load efficiency of 82% so the psu can draw about 750w from the wall. the [H] review of cf'd 5850's in an i7 build with 1 hdd and 1 optical drew about 350w from the wall, while the gtx285 sli setup drew about 430w from the wall. i figure either way, you'll be good with the hx620. i'd go with the ati cards.

You will want to upgrade to the Corsair 850tx or hx. The 750 will run the systems you describe but it is pushed to its limits. The 620hx will work until you peak your usage and then it will probably shut down, I haven't seen or heard of anyone trying to sli with the 620, I have with the 750tx but everybody that does it understands that it is taxing the psu.

ah i see, so it is time to upgrade. guess i'll be looking at the hx850 / hx1000

the last time i measured the power draw of a gtx280 sli system it was with a q6600@3.6ghz in a 790 ultra board, four gig of ram, 150 raptors in raid0, and a 240 radiator water cooling loop in a cosmos s case with all of its fan ports occupied. the whole thing drew 620-650w from the wall or 533w from the psu. as i've mentioned in my previous post, the hx620 can draw 750w from the wall at its limit. an i5 or i7 build with either of those video card arrays will draw less power than than the system i built so you can use the hx620, but i'd follow shaddowssong's advice and give it a little head room with a good 750w psu.

Crossfire 5850s will be fine. SLI GTX285s will be pushing it a bit, but you could still probably manage. If you go with the GTX285s I'd recommend a 750W PSU at least, but with 5850s you don't need to upgrade.
The 620hx will work until you peak your usage and then it will probably shut down
The HX620 does not have OCP and will not shut down under higher loads.

I ran Crossfire 4870s on a earthwatts 650. Antec is a good brand but earthwatts is a lower end line. Never had a problem. Recently updated to a TX750 in case I get froggy over the 5800s.
