Hi,

I am planning on "upgrading" my current rig and are wondering if my old power supply will be enough for the new hardware.

I have a Seasonic S12 600w now.

I will need power enough to handle the following.

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, X58

Cpu: Intel Core™ i7 920 Quad Processor

Cpu fan: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Fan

Ram: Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 6GB

Soundcard: Creative X-FI TITANIUM

4 Harddrives: Raptor 150gb, 3x500gb samsung spinpoint T166.

Gfx: GTX 285 or a GTX 295, having a hard time deciding beacuse the Gtx 295 will most likely not be able to change cooling being a double card and I tend to wanna change from stock to a more silent solution.

Additional Gfx: I also have a 9800GT that I am considering using for PhysX.

So will my current power supply be good and will it maybe even have some spare power for some OC ?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to give their input.

Good brand, 600W is ok, what is the max combined +12V amperage or wattage?

I think you should be fine, if you have a max combined of +12V@40A or more, but no OC'ing or Phyx card.

You might want to look at a $120 Corsair 850W with +12V@70A

Well, I am pretty sure there is only 36a on those twelve volt rails. In a picture I saw I think it said the 12v rails had 432watts/12=36amps. That may be a little weak I would upgrade to something that has ~50a on the 12 volt rails.. for instance one of the corsaid ps.

Thanks guys and yes jhalf is correct about the amps so I am now looking at a new power supply.

The Corsair TX 850W seam good david but I am more leaning towards the Seasonic M12D 850W since they are pretty close in price where I live and I have had great experiences with Seasonic so far. Or do you still think the Corsair TX is a better choice ?

The Corsair 1000W Black is also an option I guess since the price of it is equal to Seasonic M12D but it really feels like a major overkill for me.

A big focus for me is quality but also very low volume. I have a Antec p180 case so the power supply usually stay very cool thanks to fan in the lower bay of the case.

The 850W M12 D is a much better PSU than the TX850. If the pricing is similar, it's a no-brainer. Go with the Seasonic.
