I just got my new e6600 in because I rma'd the first. I'm trying to overclock the processor and I got it to boot into windows at 1.46875v on my evga 680i motherboard. I try running Intel TAT to check temps/stability on the overclock and no matter what voltage I give the processor from here up to 1.5v, it just locks up, blue screens, and restarts. My power supply is an antec neopower 480 that i've had for about a year. I'm also running 2 harddrives, 2 optical drives, and an 8800gtx. Could my power supply be the culprit, my e6600 not being able to got that high, or is it my windows install because when I rma'd my first cpu i just took it out of my machine which already had windows installed and put the new one in when it came in. I also had to get a new mobo, the same one also, so new mobo and new cpu and when I got into windows i updated bios. My e6600 should be able to hit 3.4 from what i've seen. Most people have been able to get at least that.

Does it run fine at stock? What caused you to RMA the first processor?

A antec 480 is probally a little small for that rig with a 8800GTX. Dont suppose you have a older video card to test with.

no i don't. Do you recommend me getting a bigger power supply? If I need a new power supply I would want to get something that would last me a while with future hardware. Would an OCZ gamexstream 700 handle 2 8800gtx's.

What happens at stock speeds? Why did you RMA the first processor?

the first one was like overheating or something. It metal shim cover thing must of had a bad connection underneath or was not flat on top making my hsf not sit on it right. Anyways, would you recommend me getting a new powersupply anyways. People have been telling me that mine isn't really going to cut it.
