I've been having some problems lately booting into Windows. When I have all my perepherals installed, my system starts the Windows load screen and then just goes black. However, when I remove the optical drives and keep just the three hard drives, I am able to boot into Windows just fine. I am running an Antec Truepower 430 right now, and I haven't had any problems with it. But I just upgraded to an Athlon 2500+ Barton and a Radeon 9600XT video card. Below is what is currently sucking power:

- Three hard drives
- Radeon 9600xt video card
- Athlon 2500+
- Two optical drives, one CD-RW and another DVD
- Two front case fans, one exhaust fan, one Sunon 92mm CPU fan

Any chance it could be my power supply? If not, what else could be at fault?
 
You have enough juice I mean I ran 10 hard drives off a 400 Antec that came with my case so you should be good with the PSU. I would say its some driver issue or jumper confusion ....
 
Your have more then enough. I have 4 hard drives, 2 Optical drives, zip drive, floppy drive, 4 80mm case fans, a Zalman 92mm copper cooler, and a P4 2.8c oc'd to 3.4 and a Radeon 8500. I've never seen any problems with my Enermax 350 Watt powersupply.

Yep. I think it may be jumper problems with my optical devices... But it's strange that it would prevent me from booting Windows.

windows gets all confused and panics ... its a little wussy at heart ... just try one optical device on the cable with the master setting ... see if it works ... then try the other ... if it works try changing your slave with the master and use the propper jumper settigns


also see if you can boot up into safe mode with the messed up settigns you have now ...
 
You definately dont need a larger power supply. Theres probably just a configuration problem with your hard drives or optical drives if it works when you take some of them off.

Get your manual and check your jumper settings. I wouldn't have your hard drive and optical drives on the same IDE cable ither.
 
I don't think it's the PSU. You should be ok w/ a TP430.
Try adding the opticals back one at a time & see if one in particular causes a problem. I've got a rig w/ close to that load on a 300W Enermax... dual p3 1.0s, 3 scsis, 1 optical... it's a server though & I stuck a really old vid card in it though.

OTOH I did overload a 400W Antec at one point... 5V line couldn't take it. I had to get a TP550.
