Do I have a bad Graphics card?

I recently got an X1800xt and it seems to work fine except when I load up ATItools.

The screen gets corrupted. After a while the screen goes back to normal though. Here's are a couple of shots:

However, I've noticed that also whilst I'm trying to find max core in ATItools there's yellow specs in the furry cube (only within the cube) when it reaches 640mhz+
However, running auto overclocking within CCC it found a nice overclock but not sure if there were any corruption (no windows with 3D display)

My dilema is whether I have a dodgy card or whether this is quite normal??

Games seem to run fine, even with a little overclock (my main aim is not overclocking but a stable card and one without dodgy memory (I think the corruption is partly dodgy memory although it only happens with ATItools )

Do a search on properly using ATT. Voltages are what is causing your problems...

HI plywood99, I take it ATT is ati tray tools?
I ditched ATI tools and installed ATI tray tools and I don't seem to get the crap screens as above. Not run through any overclocking but seems to do exactly the same job as ATI tools.

I also noticed the volts on ATI tools was 1.275 and in ATI tray tools it's 1.3

I think it might have been the volts although I haven't the foggiest when it comes to volts.

It's also fixed a problem I had when running Oblivion.
When I had ATI tools with CCC nomatter how I changed the settings manually AA and AF didn't work (only in bloom) Now using ATT I managed to get it working with AA/AF + HDR.

Does it do this when booting up (when you see the motherboard splash screen?). If it does, I'd suggest a GPU bios flash. if that doesn't work, then RMA is the only way. Eerie how my X800GTO2 had the same problem, I saw almost exactly what you are seeing now. I had to return the card, couldn't fix it.

No only happens for a few secs when I load up ATItools. Nowehere else. Everything runs fine (games, 3dmark, movies on PowerDVD, etc)

My screen flashes like that only for a second when loading ati tray tools or changing the clock speed. You should try uninstalling att making sure you have the latest version and see if that helps.

Ok. No mine was like that when loading ATI tools, BUT with ATT (ATI Tray Tools) no problems.

Hmmm... that's whack. Well, my guess is that ATI tools is trying to change something your card doesn't like. if it runs benchmarks as it should and games with FPS comparable to other X1800XT's, then I think there's nothing really to worry about, unless your performance slowly begins to degrade.

This is really off subject, but my 7900gs did that. From the second it first booted up into the BIOS it did that to where Windows installed. I was never even able to install any drivers because it would crash Windows. I RMA'ed the sucker.

it's different for you though, since he didn't experience any artifacting in the bios, just when he ran ATI tools (atleast, this is what i'm getting from the information given)

Well, I RMA'd the card in the end. Now I regret it as it was running stuff well.

The retailer doesn't have any more in stock so I'm gutted. Now Im back to my X800gto :(
Now I've got a copy of STALKER, an accerlo and no high performance games machine

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. runs great on my x800gto^2.

You won't be disappointed, unless you're running an LCD with 1680x1050 or something.

When ATT loads up (just as with CCC), mine screen flashes off for a second then back on. Does your do the same? If not and it only does that for a second, then maybe it's the same thing.

No, with ATI Tray tools there were no artifacting until I ran the bench after a mild overclock.
Cooling seems great as load would be below 70oC which I believe is quite good on this card. I even bought an Accelero x2 but didn't fit it on.

With ATI tools the screen would turn to the pics I put up. I think the memory were ok at the stock level, but when I tried clocking up the core it would artifact at around 630-635mhz. Weird as CCC gave me a much higher reading although I didn't risk running it at that level.

It was a refurbished card anyway - now it's back to where I bought it an getting full refund. On the lookout now for an alternative card though. I think I'll be using my X800gto for now, but boy I do miss Oblivion with the X1800xt.

ATI Tray Tool runs no better then ATI Tool it all depends on what you know about over clocking your video card. You could use Overclocker if you know what you are doing. I tried ATI Tray Tools and simply didn't like it. For me, I know how ATI Tool works and what voltage to use for my video card. That works best for me. ATI Tray Tools has a bunch of features that you will never use beyond CCC. A lot of people who use CP and ATI Tray Tools use about the same resources and processes as they do with just CCC alone. So I find switching to be a mute issue, at least for me.
