Do Haswell Xeons allow BCLK straps?

When is Microcenter going to carry them? I'm trying to buy two of the Intel Xeon E3-1275V3s.

Newegg has them, what board you planning to use? Egg has only three options, a Supermicro with the C222 chipset and two Asus with C224, not finding anything on the chipset differences....

The Asrock boards shouldn't have any issues with them, same with some of the Asus boards, but you'll want to check their website for which boards do.

I'm going to use the Supermicro X10SAE for my server and the Asus Z87 workstation for my desktop. Microcenter is cheaper than NewEgg for processors, so that's why I was asking about them carrying them.

Seems that nobody knows (understandable considering no reviewers AFAIK have reviewed the Xeons, and it seems retail stores aren't carrying them so the earliest anyone will get them is Tuesday).

I'm going to wait until tonight and if nobody has an answer, I'll order a 1230v3 from Newegg (seems to be the only place with them currently) and let you all know. Only costs about $40 + shipping to return, so it's a risk worth taking IMO.

From Anandtech:

The BCLK adjustment gives you a little more flexibility when overclocking, but you still need a K-SKU to take advantage of the options.

So no, there will be no BCLK overclocking with non-K processors.

That is to be expected considering that Xeons are for servers/workstations where stability is the #1 priority.

Thanks for that. It seems there is still some conflicting information on this from various different sources (and the older Haswell overclocking articles, from the IDF presentation, don't specify anything about the actual SKUs), but I'm inclined to trust Anand.

BCLK straps seem pointless now if they're only available on K SKUs which are multiplier-unlocked anyway. And it was possible to increase BCLK by a few MHz before to get a less-than-100MHz clock boost.

It's kind of a shame the choices they've given us - overclock and don't get VT-d or TSX, or get an "enthusiast platform" that is 2 generations behind for these features. But I guess that's what happens when there isn't any real desktop competition...

It seems like this applies to the i5/i7 non-K SKUs too.

The conflicting "information" only comes from people that believed that Intel would allow clock straps for all processors. Intel had never said before release which processors will get the clock straps.

The BCLK should still be marginally adjustable (probably up to 110 like SB/IB).
