Do controller chips predict performance - new 512 GB SSD

Is is reasonable that I can get a good idea of the performance of a given SSD by the controller chip? If so, how would you rank the performance delivered by the chips used in current-gen 512 GB drives?
 
each chip has its own designed specs but its really all irrelevant. You just need to look at reviews of each drive.
