Do Celeron's fold well?

Only under the super secret user name of Cedrick_Battlewind. Otherwise, crap!

I remember reading that they were nearly as good as P4s, but I'm not sure where I read it.

Ask Marty, he has a few ;)

Not really all too great. I'd say 2/3's the PPD or something like that.

They sure are cheaper!!!

Uncle Fungus keeps track of stuff like this. Go here and check it out for yourself...

http://www.fahinfo.org/

Go to buyers guide/graphs, do a cpu comparison and see.

The upshot is, on Ambers, only a little worse than a regular P-4, but on DGromacs there's a big difference, and significant difference on regular Gromacs units.

Seeing as I just retired a 2.6ghz Celeron laptop due to weak production (it barely made the benchmark amount of points), I'd say don't bother, but it's up to you as always. As long as your system is putting out the benchmark production rate or more, why not? (I don't think that using "crapper" machines is good for the science, as it slows things down. But lest everyone get pissed off with me, I say thanks for the contribution anyways).

Are you thinking about building new machines around the celeries? I know you've got some other threads related and I think you'd be much better off going with an pentium D805 and overclocking or better yet, a core 2 E6300 and overclocking. Seeing that celerons are single core only right now I can't see how it would be cost effective for equal PPD.

my celeron 336 running XP home, which is my main computer does ok.
i can't figure out when i started, or else i'd tell you my PPD

Can't wait to get me some dual core Celerons!!!!

2x Crappers FTW.

:D

All hail marty, queen of the crappers! And the dualcore celeries should be almost decent, they'll be based on the core 2's right?

how do i find out the date of the first WU i started?
i could give you an estimate of what yours should be able to do.
