Do CCFLs lose whiteness over time?

My 8.5 year old IPS screen has sandy-whites, compared to a new LED-backlit IPS screen I have. Is it normal for CCFLs to lose their ability to produce solid white over time, or would you guess my old screen wasn't as good to begin with?
 
CCFL screens become reddish over time. LEDs turn cyan, but as far as I know their color drift occurs much more slowly than CCFL.

But when you say "sandy-whites" I think you might be referring to something different. The anti-glare treatment on displays can create that dirty, or sandy, look. This is what gave older IPS screens the reputation for having a "screendoor effect", as it was hard to find any that didn't have heavy anti-glare treatments. These days manufacturers seem aware that heavy anti-glare treatment will ruin the perceived image, because like you noticed it's impossible to produce the appearance of pure colors with heavy anti-glare.
 
True, there is also a sparkly anti-glare coat. But I was only referring to the color of sand.
