Do C2D's "break-in"?

My last build was a P4 c core and I remember that it didn't OC that well at first then after a month or two it really improved because it broke in. I was wondering if the same thing happens with C2D processors?
 
I can get to 3.4ghz but its unstable, rock solid at 3.2ghz and ive had it since the first week they were out, tried last night at 3.4ghz again and it was still unstable, don't know if that helped you
 
I would love to read some scientific evidence about processor's breaking-in.

My understanding of semiconductors is limited to a single undergraduate class a couple of years back, hence it is unlikely to reflect the exact design choices that are made today. Given the knowledge that I do have, I cannot imagine how an IC would improve, rather than degrade in performance over time.
 
tpfaff: It might be your DDR2-667 memory and not your processor holding you back.

How much voltage are you using for it? With 2.2 volts for your memory it might be able to reliably run at 8 X 425 MHz.
 
I don't think there is a breaking in period for CPU's. You can either have cpu that can clock faster or don't. That's what I come into realize after owning and using computers for so long.

Perhaps the P4 you had can clock higher and be stable which you couldn't figure out before.
 
I've always heard rumors about processor break in. I don't think there is any truth to it as I've overclocked many processors from day one and experienced tremendous results. Now after a few days I've often seen a slight decrease in temperatures. Presumably from the thermal compound setting or whatever. Usually the difference is only 1 or 2 degrees C.

No kidding. Everyone emphasizes on thermal compound when in reality difference between good thermal grease and 1 that comes with retail cpu is minimal difference at best. Thermal Compound will not make your CPU somehow run faster because of 1 or 2 C.
 
Many people report being able to a lower the voltage on their overclocks and still have it stable after burn-in. Normally I too would call shens, but there does seem to be at least some kernel of truth in it if so many people have reported positive results. Please, read the forums and follow some of the links before making up your mind.

Now, a lot of the posts were regarding burn-in on Socket A processors.. as far as C2D goes, I have no idea if it makes a difference.
