Do Barebone Builders exist?

I'm basically looking to have a PC partially built for me, basically the parts where I don't really trust myself on doing just yet, although it's probably fairly easy, anyway...I just haven't done it.

I'm looking for a PC Builder that will build a PC with just the case, motherboard, CPU, PSU and cooling fans and heatsinks. Additionally, any applicable front ports as well. I'll install the video cards, other PCI devices, blue-ray drives and so forth, myself. I'd like to choose my parts.

Does any such website exist?

Some computer retailers like NewEgg and Tiger Direct offer barebones kits for sale, but oftentimes they use some parts that we wouldn't recommend here. I don't recall any of the major OEM or boutique manufacturers offering barebones kits (even though some Dell or HP computers could count as such).

Honestly, it isn't that hard to build a complete computer from scratch. All you really need are a screwdriver and some patience. Check out mechBgon's guide for first-time system builders or the NewEgg TV How to Build a Computer series for pointers.

Just curious, why are you so worried about putting it together?

The best way to get over that anxiety is to just keep on doing it. Repeated exposure to putting computers together will make you less antsy about breaking computer parts. Not to mention a lot of parts are covered under warranty, so even if something is DOA, it wouldn't be your fault.

Try it out, become a builder yourself! It's fun and convenient to be able to do it on your own. Until ungrateful folks try to take advantage of your skill and keep coming you to fix their computer bits. That gets old, quickly.

Dude it's just screwing a few things into holes and then plugging a bunch of crap in. It is definitely not difficult, especially these days. If you can follow a diagram and written directions I think you'll be safe... The only time it gets even REMOTELY difficult is when we're talking about concerns with wire/cable management, chopping up your PSU's various cables to custom lengths and re-doing the connections, heatshrinking individual wires on the 12V rail, etc... just overall modding that involves basic soldering, drilling, cutting, etc..

Buy a name-brand case that will come with some decent documentation on how to install components into it, as well as a high quality motherboard with a thorough manual and that's all you'll need. No critical thinking required.
