Hello everyone.

I really like logitech MX mice, and since I don't install the mouseware, I really have no problems with them. ;)

However, I recently bought a logitech minimouse, as I was very interested in seeing how well it worked for gaming. I was disappointed to find that this mouse "skipped" when I moved it too quickly, or more like the cursor or crosshair would stop moving. I tried moving it left and right quickly in windows, and the pointer would just stop momentarily if I moved it too quickly. Tested it in UT and Q3 also, and when I tried to turn quickly, it would stop sometimes. Very annoying.

So, my question is, do all non-MX logitechs do this if you move them very quickly, or just this particular model? I know some people who use non-mx logitech optical mice, and I am thinking that perhaps they don't move the mouse as quickly as I do. TIA for replies.
 
it may be a problem with the mouse or the design of it since the cordless non-mx one I have works like a charm, even for gaming
 
Mouse don't have to be logitech mx to not skip, but it does depend on the quality..

most dual led mice won't do this..

Me too, accept I do use the mouseware, because I don't know wheather or not you cam use all the extra buttons in a game w/o it.

Anyway I had a non MX logitech mouse a while ago that was a compaq OEM actually... never had a problem.

Nope. You can't.

Older opticals in general will skip if you flick too fast—that's why I replaced my Logitech B69 with an MX500. Sold the B69 to a less twitchy gamer. :)
 
My Logitech Dual Optical mouseman works like a dream, it's not Logitech, so it's not non-MX mice that do it, but maybe older and perhaps cheaply made mice.

:( I read that sentence six or seven times and still don't understand what you are trying to say. Double-negatives in English are a real bitch. Anyway, most optical mice skip. The MX-series don't skip, and I believe the gen 3 and 4 Intellimice don't skip either.
 
I think he was saying that it's not logitech mice, and it's not non-MX mice, but just older or cheaply made mice in general that skip.

Anyways, thing is, I bought this mouse brand new about 2 weeks ago. So I am not sure why it skips. I have a MS intellimouse 3.0 here, must be at least 2 years old, and no matter how quickly I move my hand, it does not skip.

BTW, with an MX500, the 2 side buttons work in game without installing mouseware, just those other tiny buttons that don't work. I found those to be difficult to use while gaming anyways. And for an MX310, all buttons work without installing mouseware. Now if mouseware would give me on the fly sensitivity, that would be cool. Razer has had this for years, why has no one else put this in their drivers?

Yes you can, I have never installed the Mouseware Software and I use every button on my Mouse in CS with no problem's.
 
You have MX700, right? And you can even use those small ones in front and behind the wheel?
 
I have a USB Marble Mouse and it works pretty good IMO. Even works wonders on my Powerbook.
 
Maybe it could have something to do with your surface??

The MX series are extremely accurate. Won't skip at all.

I have an older Logitech Optical mouse and it does skip a bit unless you put it on a mousepad. The only time it skips is when the cursor isn't moving, it'll vibrate back and forth a bit. Momentarily though. Nothing major and when using a mousepad, it doesn't do this at all.
 
Agreed, my MX mice do not skip at all, when on a cloth surface, or black, textured plastic surface. But this mouse I am having issues with is non-MX. It works fine for ordinary windows stuff, but just try turning quickly in a game and it will stop momentarily.. can get you killed. Just wondered if all their non-MX mice are like this, or if I just got a random, crappy one.

Umm BTW Chelica, isn't the marble mouse a trackball? That would be scary if someone moved their fingers across one of those fast enough to make it skip. ;)

Same here, i hate the mouseware software, never install it, and have always been able to use ALL the extra buttonf for the mouse
 
The 9.80 Mouseware for the mx510 is pretty much intellipoint with logitech logos. I've been using it for a month and I have not had a single problem.

Well, all of them except the Application Button, unless there is some nice .dll file that can be downloaded to make that one work as well without the Logitech Mouseware Software. Now that would be real nice.
 
I have had my Logitech MouseMan Optical for quite a while now and have never had it skip. Also I found that my buttons work better without the Logitech Mouseware installed.

Now that sounds nice. I actually liked the intellipoint software. It was really handy and buttons always worked in games. Now does anyone know if the "negative accelleration" issue has been fixed in this new mouseware?

Hmm is this software just for the MX510? That mouse has an upgraded optical engine I believe. Wondering if it would work for the older MX mice I have.

This fellow has the right of it.

Optical mouse 'skipping' is a problem with older LED mice. This issue existed on all of the first generation optical mice (Firingsquad.com had just about the first review/preview of the optical intellimouse, and if you go read it you'll notice they mention this problem).

The problem went away when Microsoft and Logitech both released their updated '2.0' optical mice (don't know what logitech called theirs). Many cheap optical mice today still skip, but not all of them. Unfortunately there's no real way to tell from packaging whether or not the mouse will have the problem without trying one in a store.

No optical mouse sold by microsoft or logitech today in my experience has this issue, they all use the updated faster-sampling technology. My advice would be to only buy quality mice, so you don't end up with the problem :).
