DNS and antivirues ?

The OS should be properly protected, updated, and if it's a server that's available on the public side....locked down.

Are you talking about a DNS server just internally to a network, such as for Windows Active Directory? Or a server on the public side...running a DNS service?

With Windows..for domain controllers...you need to have the proper exclusions in your antivirus real time protection.
The following link is for Small Business Server..but in the exclusions you can sort out and discard which are for Exchange and IIS 'n other non-AD stuff.

In my opinion, all windows-based computers should have a decent anti-virus/anti-malware product installed and running on them. Look at ESET, Kapersky or Avira.

Especially anything that would be considered called a server. I could handle a user computer being down with a virus but a server being down by a virus is totally another thing.
