I would like to have Great audio quality for producing music on my synthesizer when the room mates are asleep. Price range is around $50-150. Whatever is the best bang for your buck. I want the audio to dollar ratio to be very high. Thanks! :D

If you want bang for your back, it is going to be hard to beat the Senn 280HD set for $99. Low bass response, foldable design, closed cans...very nice for a budget purchase. I like my BeyerDynamic 770PRO's though, the velour earpads are sooo nice. :p

You want closed phones. Here're the words of some guys who listened to quite a few.

Commando seems to agree that the HD280s offer good bang/buck.

The Sennheiser 280s are amazing value cans. They hold their own against the big boys, and lack only in bass impact, while bass extension is the best i've heard - see the truck idling comment above. Perhaps they're not quite as smooth, but it's close. For under $100 these are amazing value and are great entry level audiophile cans.

Something you may also think about when looking for dj cans is whether or not having one cup on and one off (side of your neck, wherever you position it when listening to your monitors) either kills the soundstage of the cans or makes them unbearably cumbersome/uncomfortable. Having said that, 280s aren't bad cans at all, but I found them to not work very well when I demo'd a pair as I couldnt find a comfortable position for them when using only 1 cup and had to keep popping em around my neck completely off thne back on, and this can get very annoying. THe sony mdrv series sound like butt and the 700s have hinges made of glass, therefore you wont see me recommend them virtually ever but the pioneer hdj 1000s I've found to be a fair enough mix between odd dj wearing habit friendlyness and overall halfway decent sound, and most shops I know have them under $150. So I'd say go audition a pair for yourself and see, I don't think you'll be too disapointed.

Take a look at the Sony V6 or 7506(NOT the V600), Sennheiser HD-25 or the HD-215.

I've done some live PA work and reccomend any Sennheiser product. I've had about four sets and they have replaced mangled ones for free, too. Great product, great company. I usually have spent 80-120 bucks on them. You do want closed ones, though, or else you can get confused.
