DIY Water cooling ?

For a while now I have wanted to get into water cooling and want to experiment before I start building my new 64bit rig.

I have explored some option as the premade kits like thermaltake big water that is right around my price range

or

DIYing my own rig I have found parts scattered around the net that all work into my system.

My cpu temps are normal anywhere between 46-50.. I just wanna water cool for fun, and also keep the noise down a bit.

Please help me decide..

What is your exact budget range. The thermaltake kits are not very high-performing, so a higher budget would be most beneficial.
 
My outlook is usually "If you're going to do it half-ass then don't bother doing it at all." That budget really limits you to a kit such as the TT kit. Today's air cooling comes close to the cooling of kits like that as you'll read if you manage a search.

Put that $100-150 away and wait until you have around $200-250. If you shop smart you'll be happier in the long run having a better kit. I recently purchased a Storm WB and a Maze 4 GPU block one new, the other used from people in the FS/FT fourms here. The price of those two blocks alone exceeds your low end budget.

see i have found waterblock for the cpu and gpu, tubing, pump, radiator, res, all except the pump with a total of around 120...
 
On the waterblocks you're mixing 6mm tubing with 10 or 13mm tubing, This is a big no-no. You'll want to find blocks with all the same tubing diameter.
 
then maybe CRXican was right i should wait cuz i tried to find some stuff on sale as this isn't a full on project just giving my Athlon XP a golden watch before its time is done...
 
If you wanna realy have some fun, solder up your own block. Its not hard and you can save a little money that way. I used a 1 1/2 " copper cap and a sheet of copper to build mine. Its just an experiment right?
 
If youre going to wc, then you will want to get something thats actually going to be worth it. I reccommend getting a danger den kit, with 3/8" tubing. Check them out. They're one of the best brands by far. IMHO, they really are the best.
 
Take a look at the site where you're looking to get the Whitewater and look at their GPU blocks. I believe they've got a pretty decently priced one. As to the WW, get the universal one since it's just a couple of bucks more and then you'll be able to use it after you've given that AXP the long kiss goodnight.

How did you mount it? I have a DIY kit such as what he's going for, but mine is straight ghetto, after all-it's just an experiment. Only thing is that I gave up when it became time to mount my home-made cpu block (a heavily modded Coolermaster socket A hsf). I could not get it to stay on the cpu how I wanted it to, and I'm sure that it would have lost contact thus been ineffective to say the least.

btw, when I say ghetto, I mean completely cobbled. A generic aquarium pump (decent head and gpm, but whatever), a diy cpu block, a heater core from my dad's junkyard (huge-roughly 6"x12", and braided tubing from the hardware store.
