ditch 580s for 6970s for eyefinity?

I have a little dilemma. I have 3 30" monitors, 3008wfp, U3011, and a Doublesight DS-305w.

Apparently Nvidia doesn't like them working together I'm assuming it has something to do with sync polarity. I just e-mailed them, and I'm sure I won't hear from them till Monday at the earliest. The question I have is that if I cannot get them working in Surround, I believe they will work in Eyefinity. Now I cannot find much on 3-way 580s vs 3-way 6970s. I am impressed with the scaling of the 6970s though, and debating on selling the 580s and getting the 6970s to work, but FPS I usually play in 2560*1600 so I don't want to lose too much performance at that resolution, and want the surround/eyefinity for Racing/Flight games.

The other option might be to return the DS-305w and instead get another 3011 if 2 of those would work with the 3008. Although this option would cost me roughly ~$450. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have two xfx 6970s and the scaling is very impressive with my three dell u2410s in eyefinity. I have not seen anything about trifire performance yet, but I would be glad to give it a try if somebody loans me another 6970 :D

Bezel correction does not work with eyefinity unless you have the same monitors, so you will be able to have triple screen eyefinity however you will not be able to do bezel correction unless all monitors are the same model.

I would wait and see if you get a response back from nvidia before doing something drastic like switching to 6970s when you already have 580s. They are both excellent cards!

You can get bezel correction in Eyefinity by spoofing the EDID from the monitors. There are tools that you can use for that, and they don't do anything to the monitors, they just fake software out. :)

I don't think you will loose to much at those resolutions , you might actually gain performance at eyefinity resolutions due to the larger vram

Anyway if you sell your 580s you should be getting over $400 for each. So your looking at $1200 back but only spending $1110 . for the 3 6970s. You might be able to get more for the gtx 580s too.

Surround on the ati cards are better than on nvidia right now perhaps simply due to ati having a year longer to work on it

Agree with Bastard 100%.

I didn't do 470 sli because I wanted to do 2 dell 2005FPW's with a samsung 204BW so I ordered a 6950 instead. Turns out I much prefer 3x portrait mode and bought another 2005fpw on CL for $80, now the 6950 is still en route but I could have got away with 470 sli.

Of course, No I want 5x1 portrait...

Wow thanks for posting that, great stuff. Really validates my picking up the 6950.

I'm strongly considering a pair myself. I should lock in and order some in about 2 weeks. 6950s to unlock to dual 6970s on water is a very strong possibility for surround gaming.

I have 2 samsung screens and a dell, bezel correction works perfectly on 10.12a hotfix drivers, despite the different screens. Perhaps something changed with the new drivers?

I see this stated in a lot of posts so I thought it best to respond. Not trying to bust any one's chops...

The monitors must be VERY similar, but can be different models. At least in my case.

I use (2) Dell U2410s and a Dell 2409FWP and I am offered the option to use bezel correction (and I use it it in a different user profile)

Just saying that if the models are similar enough, you get the bezel correction option.

I'm not sure this is true. I have two Dell U2410 and one LG L246 monitors and I can run them in Eyefinity bezel corrected. Maybe there is enough similarity between these two models that make them compatible though.

Perhaps eyefinity just needs monitors of the same sync polarity to enable bezel correction, just like nvidia requires for surround. The difference would be that AMD still enables eyefinity if this isn't present.

Does that sound plausible?

That might exactly be the case. But at least you can use it even w/o bezel correction.

I emailed NVIDIA asking about it. Its obviously a software issue, so should be something doable for NVIDIA

Monitor specs have to the same. DPI, refresh, and native res are the triggers.

I can't seem to find any 3-way SLI / crossfire benchmarks between the 6970 and 580 at 2560*1600. Has anyone seen any?

How would any software know about DPI? It doesn't know the physical size of your monitors (needed to calculate DPI), just the timings, refresh, and resolution.

Because as part of the EDID - DPI / PPI is packed in there. ATI reads that and it does use that for bezel management.
