Hi all

I am new to water cooling and just set up my first system last night. The only distilled water I could find at the grocery store was called "Distilled Spring Water".

I have it running in my system now. Is this ok? I know you aren't supposed to use spring water - but is Distilled spring water ok?

Or should I look for something else? Where?

Steam distilled is steam distilled no matter where it came from. The impurities have been removed, so you should be fine. You can add a biocide to help keep the algae at bay. A pet supply store should have it in the fish section, or a capfull of clorox will do.

Also look for ozone treated and .02 (might be .2) micron filtered distilled water if you can find it. Check around. I got mine at a pharmacy.

Thanks for the reply. My system came with some green coolant that i added to the water in a 10:3 ration (per instructions provided). Guess I should be ok then.

One thing I don't like is that I can't tell if there is water flow, so I want to add an inline flow meter. But something tells me it could impede the flowrate... will it?

BTW I am using the TT Aquarius III - I know there are better systems around, but I am quite happy with it. :)

A flow meter won't impede the water flow at all. Most of them are a "spinner" type device I beleive, which won't do anything to it. Another way to tell if you have water flow is to look at your resivor (if it's easily visible).

And yeah, you should be ok with the green stuff. Probably the same thing I bought for my setup. Hydrex or something like that.

Those spinners do add restriction to the loop. How much I don't know, but it happens.

Anything you add in line to your loop will add restriction. How much it adds, only testing your own system will tell............... :D

If you want a flowmeter that doesn't add any resistance, get a doppler or a magnetic one. Only cost ya $500 or so... :)

BigFootComputers is psychotic. They want nearly $100 for one 80mm radiator and fan. OH MY GOD IT'S A COMBO. That's more than half the cost of a full fucking Swiftech set.
