Does distilled water have a shelf life? Say I have alot left over, can I use it one year from now when I bleed and refill my loop?
 
Once you break the seal it may no longer be sterile and some life my find it's way into your jug...

If your concerned just buy another jug of water =p
 
You can't boil it without getting impurities into it. If it hasn't been opened, use it. If it has, it's only 2$ right?
 
Thanks. was just wondering. Like someone said, its dirt cheap to just get a new bottle.
 
If it's just coming in a plastic jug, isn't it possible the water has absorbed some of the plastic? (or whatever comes off of the plastic)
 
It's possible (probable) that some oxygen has gotten through the HDPE jug, yea, but anything from the plastic itself is harmless to your system. Keeping it stored in a cool dark place would help also.
 
couple drops of your favorite biocide into the jug when storing after opening it should work.
 
ive wondered this myself.i used some distilled water from my opened jug(2 months opened)
and its so far so good.been running it now for 4 months so wee will see:D
 
short of anything obviously growing in it, its fine. Boiling it wouldn't add too much in the way of impurities, since distillation is just a boiling process and the condensation probably takes place in a metal loop. If you were talking about deionized (DI) water, then boiling it would be adding more impurities that would be coming off the metal pot. You're going to have some kind of biocide in your loop anyway right? then just go for it
 
I had some in an opened and re-sealed container with biocide that I kept in a closet in my computer room.

...for a year...

When I opened it, it had a bit of a smell, the moldy yucky kind of smell. So, my recommendation is to simply throw out any unused/opened water and just buy new. If you keep it longer than just a few weeks, you will probably have microbiology in a jug. Not worth the risk.
