I have everything set at low quality have overdrive on. Systems Bartons@2200 2x512 3500 hyperX and still I never get anything too steady my fps is always ranging from 35-70. This isn't too impressive really. Any ideas what to do to help this out? and I believe I do have the 4.12bs I did the stress test and I got 46.68.

yah that does seem a bit low, before i upgraded durring the cs-sorce beta, i ran the stress test with my old system;
athlon xp 1800+
512mb pc133
radeon 9700 pro
MSI k7T2 mo-bo

and got around 60-70 depending if i had anything running in the backround, im waiting until xmas to get hl2 so i wont know what i get until after the holliday with the new system.

but try running it on Open GL instead of direct3d, it should run a little faster then on D3D, since the cs engine was designed on the OGL32 engine that the old halflife used, but with some major changes such as updated models, maps, and textures, but the game engine is the same as before, so you should see faster speeds with OGL instdead of D3D, make sure u dont have AA on or AF on, that will slow your card down too. If all else fails, you might want to concider upgrading to an A64 system XD :D

Doesn't let me switch to Open GL does it let anyone else?

it let me in the beta without a problem...... it should just be in options, if not look around in the sorce folder for a vid setup prompt or something, it may be there. ill ask a friend tomarrow if he can switch to open gl

Have you defragged your hard-drive after install? I found that everytime Source updates, it's files get tossed around.

Also, try opening the console and looking for errors with red text.

About 47 fps in the CS:S stress test is reasonable with your system (the 9700 Pro is a faster card).

You cannot get the Source engine to run in OpenGL, it is Direct3D (a part of DirectX) only. You can switch between D3D and OGL menus under the 4.12b 3D tab, but this does not affect the renderer used by Source based games (or any other games).

mine will dip really low ingame too.

I did the stress test and got like 88 but it was at a pretty low resolution. I'm not exactly impressed either. It still seems a bit choppy.

I have just purchesed a 6800oc from bestbuy and am contemplating on wether to keep it or return it.
