DisplayPort to replace DVI/HDMI

What the hell. Why can't the industry just pick a connection and stick with it. I mean, I understand VGA wasn't cutting it anymore because we needed a digital hookup, but DVI and HDMI seem to be working fine, why throw something new into the mix?

Well I care about this specification for one reason: bandwidth.

As screens and their pixel counts grow we will need far more bandwidth than DVI is capable of.
 
DisplayPort refreshes images instead of reloading them, which makes for better performance on the screen, for instance instead of telling the video card to make the screen blue 60 times a second it will stay blue until other instructed therefore making the word FPS obsolete.
