Displayport or HDMI

I just ordered the LG 34UC97 Curved 34" monitor. My GTX 980 and this monitor both have a displayport option.

Any thoughts on which I should use? The HDMI or the displayport? Seems to me from what I'm reading the displayport is the superior option.

Displayport. LG 34UM95/34UC97 HDMI 1.4a ports only support 3440x1440@50hz instead of full 60hz

Does hdmi do the full resolution at 60 hz on that screen? If so I would do hdmi if not then displayport, I found displayport to act odd at times though this could be my monitor (dell 3008wfp).

Hmmm didn't realize HDMI was limited to 50hz at that resolution. The monitor comes with a cable for both so I guess I might have to give that a try first and see how it looks.

I appreciate the information.

It's not a huge deal for anything but gaming. For movies & productivity, 50hz is fine and unnoticeable. It's not like 4K@30hz (see: horrible)

4k at 30hz is fine for movies, and works ok for productivity. I program on a 39" 4k at 30 hz, the loss in hertz is far off set in the gain in resolution.

LG supports HDMI 2.0. I have mine set at full resolution at 61 hz custom refresh rate. Only works with 900 series that have the new hdmi output

Thanks all. Gaming is my primary function, so I'll definitely want to be pushing at least 60hz.

LG TVs support hdmi 2.0 their monitors are still hdmi 1.4, even their flagship monitor 31mu97 still only supports hdmi 1.4.

Regardless its 61 hz and no sleep issues or windows moving around. No issues with hdmi so far while dp had sleep issues
