displayport help

you connect it to a displayport connection on the video card?
 
You don't have a displayport output, then.

You could try the HDMI output on your motherboard, or maybe the DVI output if it's dual-link capable.
 
Thanks. Will the included dvi cable work then for 1440p?

Also does dvi do sound or what cable do i need to use the monitor speakers
 
Probably, but only if the motherboard's DVI output supports it as well. The manual on MSI's website doesn't say whether it's a dual-link DVI port (which is what you would need to get the 1440p resolution output). If that doesn't work, the HDMI output might.
 
Called msi, they said it depends on my cpu not to mobo?

Im using it for gaming, just havent bought my gpu yet. Want to connect it to make sure my monitor doesnt have any branding or other problems the bl3200pt are having
 
well, at the very least it doesn't look like there's any appreciable backlight bleed!

Ok i got the OS installed but it only lets me do 1920x1080
This is hurting my eyes


Will the hdmi cable do 1440p?
 
Because I have no idea what I'm doing and don't want to mess up new monitor or newly build pc

I have no idea how to get my pc to run 2560x1440
Pretty sure my mobo port isn't dual link dvi and idk what hdmi I'm running/if it supports 1440p
 
Hmm I've found this on my mobo specs

• 1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 4096x2304@24Hz, 2560x1600@60Hz, 3840x2160@60Hz,1920x1200@60Hz
• 1 x VGA port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60Hz
• 1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200@60Hz

That explains the limit. Still dunno if I can reach 1440p, but guess I'll try

What's the procedure to switching cables? Just power off and switch?
 
You don't even need to power off, just unplug the DVI cable and plug in the HDMI cable.

Your HDMI output should be able to do 2560x1440@60hz, according to that information.

As far as a GPU that can do displayport, you'd be hard pressed to find a modern one that doesn't have a displayport output.
 
Hdmi worked, just working on the Dpi scaling/browser scaling and setting everything up.
This topics making me question my pc parts tho
 
Well, I'd be questioning my choice of parts too if I didn't have a video card but was planning to run in 2560x1440 resolution. :)

Seriously though, what are you wondering about? You haven't even gotten all the parts yet.
 
I was told the msi z97-g55 was a good mobo but looking on their site it's not even a gaming mobo, no Displayport or dual link dvi.

I got a budget case thinking it would be enough but the gpu I want doesn't fit, so I'm probably getting the msi 980 instead.

I have the i5-4690 and 8gb of ram, hoping that's enough.

I'm not getting a gpu for a bit, so I have all the parts for now.
 
you want discrete graphics anyway

onboard graphics just for troubleshooting...buy a GPU, 970 the sweet spot at the moment if I am not mistaken
