Never used displayport need some advice.

1. Are all displayport cables pretty much the same, quality wise? What cable would you recommend?

2. What are the correct connector type to go from 7970 video card to monitor (U3011)?

3. If using eyefinity, is it better to hook 2 monitors up to displayport and the third to DVI, or use displayport to DVI adapters and use DVI nput on all 3 monitors?

4. If I go crossfire down the road and I add a second card with 3 displayport even if first card only has two?

Thanks!

1. Most brands are rebrands of others and should be identical in performance. Since your monitors have displayport support, you don't really need to worry about quality like those who have to worry about active adapters.

2. For your monitor, you need a mini-displayport to full displayport adapter. To connect to any other interfaces, you need an ACTIVE mini-displayport to dual link DVI or HDMI adapter. The only time you can use a passive adapter is if you use displayport to VGA for lower resolutions. You could also use a mini-displayport to full displayport adapter and then hook up an active adapter to that.

3. Doesn't make any difference. One HDMI and one DVI are shared though unless you have a FLEX card.

4. Second card is irrelevant in a Crossfire configuration. Only the first card can output. 2nd card is just a slave so it doesn't matter what connectors are on it, you won't be able to use them.

Thanks for the info!

I ended up with this cable

Pretty excited about this new 3 monitor setup, its all new to me. Thanks for your help.

Twenty bucks isn't bad, but next time check Monoprice. Their stuff is great and their customer support is as well.

I bought 3 15' mini-dp to dp cables from monoprice, think they cost the same as that single cable.
