Hi. I recently got the Hyundai L90D+ 19'' lcd and it is a great monitor, but Ive run into a problem.

Im not sure if this si the direct problem with the monitor or the pc itself, but ill start with the monitor. Also of note is taht this problem started this morning after i woke up and saw the power had goen out and my pc had been shut off becuase of that.

Well now whenver I turn the pc back on, the monitor will show a blue light indicating its on, but then quickly change to orange whihc usually means there is no picture or or its in standby. I tried the monitor on another computer i have it it worked fine as soon as i plugged it in. So then i thought maybe its the video card going bad. So i take it out (an old agp ati 9000) and put in another one i had laying around( a pci ati 9250). same problem when i start up, no picture.

im running out of ideas as to what the problem is. I cant get the monitor menu to show up at all anyway unless its displaying an image, so i cant check anything on it. i thought maybe my agp slot had gone bad, but like i said i put in a pci card and got the same thing. I also tried another monitor ( an old crt) and it wouldnt display a picture either.

Anyone have any other ideas what I could try here? Any help is appreciated.

ok, was it a power outage? Mebbe a power spike nailed your motherboard -
do a cmos/bios clear
(I know this sounds silly) boot without a video card - shut off then install vid card- reboot (has worked for me before)
double check all cableing...
try the vid cards in a known good computer - if they work then you know its a bad motherboard...
hmm or a possible bad power supply - swap with known good one -

well i wondered the same thing about something being fried, that why i thought the video card was fried. but teh system starts up. all the fans spin up and the hard drive sounds likes its doing its normal thing for botting, i just get nothing displayed.

ill try uninstalling the video card, starting, shutting down and then reinstalling the card to see if that helps

well removing the card and then restarting didnt help either. if something else is fried, would the system start up and still sound like it was running?

It is definitely not your video card, you've established that. I'm thinking motherboard if you aren't getting any beep codes that tell you otherwise. Try booting with just mobo, CPU, and RAM and see if you get any codes. If not, the motherboard is probably dead.

Another vote for motherboard. And spend some $$ for a decent surge protector. Those $1 specials at Wal-mart couldn't stop a brain surge.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS as the first person that replied mentioned? This is the simplest of things, and you lose nothing by doing it...

Anyway, just to clear it up for you, the reason you're not getting any video is because the computer is not POSTing, which means a piece of hardware is at fault, but not necesarily anything related to video output. This is what people fear when they build a system at first, but it just takes a bit of troubleshooting to solve.

Strip it down to minimum specs.
Remove all drives, card bar the vid card, etc, etc.
You want just the MOBO, PSU, CPU & HS, Vid card & 1 stick of memory.
Make sure the case speaker is pluged in as you will need it later.
Clear Cmos.
Will it post.
If not remove Vid card.
When powered on do you get the Bios beep codes for bad vid card.
Replace vid card and remove memory.
When powered on do you get the Bios beep codes for bad memory.
]If you get one set of beep codes then you've found the bad part. Its the part you removed which then gave you the beep codes.
If no beep codes then probably bad Mobo, Could also be a bad Psu and/or Cpu but without another system to swop them in to its harder to go further than that.
If you have a multimeter you could check the voltages the Psu is putting out on the rails.

Luck.......... :D

well i think i cleared the cmos correctly. im not sure becuase thi is an old compaq system. i removed the battery and moved the jumper over to clear and started the system, then shut it off and replaced the batter and moved the jumper to normal.

about the case speaker, i didnt hear any sounds when i started without ram or video card, it would just make the normal sounds of booting up, hard drives spinning up, etc.

i did make sure to disconnect everything but those essential parts. i guess at this point it looks like the mobo is damaged, i just didnt think it would start up at all if it was fried like this
