I am not sure where to post this, so I figured here is a safe bet. I have been having a video problem with the computer in my sig. I recently got the LG 246WP LCD, and at first all was well. However, about a week ago, I noticed there were new drivers for my video card, so I uninstalled my old ones, ran drivercleaner, and installed the new ones. After that, I have been having an issue where my monitor will go black for about a second. After which, it will go back to working just fine, and there is no indication of any sort of problem other than the black screen (if I am playing a game, the sounds keep playing, etc...) The blackouts occur at seemingly random times, I had a few when playing TF2 (usually followed immediately by my death ;)) but it also happens during normal computer usage such as browsing with Firefox or something.

I am trying to see what the problem could be. I can think of three possibilities:
  • New video card drivers are causing the screen to blackout.
  • The monitor blacks out randomly. I have heard of monitors with this problem, but I have not heard of any problems with my particular monitor.
  • I have the computer plugged via a DVI to HDMI cable, which goes into a HDMI Switch to my monitor. Maybe the switch is somehow causing an intermittent connection?

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to test these theories? can anyone think of any other possible problems?

1)drivercleaner back to the old versions
2)I haven't heard any such problems about that monitor but the internets would surely know
3)eliminate the switch and the hdmi converter for awhile to check

those were all good ideas, now you just have to test them

Thanks for the response. The problem is, the blackouts are not repeatable. I have been running my computer all day, and did not have any blackouts. I guess I will start by removing the switch, and seeing if the problem stops.
