Display problem - Small fonts are washed out

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook with an Ati Radeon Mobility X300.

The problem is that the small fonts are washed out when in native resolutions; or any resolutions for that matter.
I tried to update the driver for the X300 but I could not find the specific driver at www.ati.com
I also tried turning on/off clear type, changing the DPI size from 120 to 90 (or whatever it is,) but it did not work.

Here is a screenshot of what the problem is, notice the small fonts. Hopefully you guys can help me. Thank you


 
here's what i always say, "when there's trouble, just reformat."

i actually do find that it works almost every single time. just kidding.

i wonder, could it just be that you have your resolution set way too small? that would make the text look fuzzy like that i think. i don't know for sure, but 1600 pixels on a little laptop screen seems like a lot. if you set it to something like 800x600, is the text still unreadable?

(not saying that you would actually work at 800x600, but just to test)
 
^(What did you get in 3dMark05? Just wondering, I have the same identical setup as you but i got around 4000)

Well in 800x600 it looks pretty nice, but it's not the native resolution so obviousley everything is way too big.
Does anyone else know what the problem might be?

what i meant to imply was, maybe you are running the resolution too high for what is probably a small screen. the text in your pictures, to me, looks just like a word document when the zoom is at like 50%. the letters get all crunched together and are pretty much unreadable. maybe you're stuck working at like 1280x1024 or 1024x768 because the screen gets too compacted at higher resolutions? i know my friend that has a similar dell laptop keeps his at 1024x768 and it looks fine, but he can't really go any higher res. than that.
i hope that might help. :) sorry if i don't know what i'm talking about, because i never know for sure.
