Display port to DVI problems

So I have a dell computer with a displayport output (no DVI) and I'm trying to connect it to a monitor with DVI and VGA but no displayport.

The Dell came with a DP to DVI adapter but it is not working for the viewsonic monitor that I have. It DOES work with a dell monitor that I have (I can get model numbers if need be, but the dell monitor is newer and the viewsonic is older - I'm thinking there may be some spec issue???)

Really annoying...any ideas?

So I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them with no luck as well as manually adding the driver for the monitor...still no luck. I'm thinking it's not a software issue as the monitor doesn't even show up in the device manager. Using the same cables on a 19" dell monitor it is detected even before I plug the power cable into the monitor.

The computer is a Dell Optiplex 960 (with the Radeon HD3570 half height PCIe card with dual display port outputs) and the monitor is a VX2235wx

Bumping this up cause I never got an answer...seems like there is an issue with this monitor not taking a displayport input. Is this just the fault of the monitor or is there a cable that I can get that would make it work. Seem like others are having the same problem with this particular monitor.
