Hiya guys,

Just upgraded my video card after 5 years and am confused about display port use.

I have an MSI 6850 ( http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R6850-PM2D1GD5-OC.html )

I currently have 2 monitors hooked up to the 2 dvi outputs. I am wanting to add my TV. When I plug it into the HDMI port, I seem to get signal only to the HDMI and not DVI. Searching around, seems I need to connect the TV via the DisplayPort?

So, I take it I'll need a DP -> HDMI? I also found bunch of threads on active vs passive DP, not quite sure what I'll need.

Also, I currently have my desktop extended across monitors 1 and 2 but I am wanting the TV (HDMI) to only mimic monitor 2 (will turn it on to watch vids off computer). Will this be possible?

Thanks much in advance.

I believe you have a choice between the single link dvi(bottom of the 2) or the hdmi, I do not believe you can use both at the same time, so that makes me think. What if you connect one of the 2 monitors to display port (the one your using in the single link dvi) then use the hdmi for the tv.

What adapters did your card come with. I believe one of my cards came with a mini dp to dvi (single link) and another came with mini dp to hdmi, depending what adapters your card came with you might be able to pull this off without buying anything, if not then buy what was posted in post 2.
