Hey guys I am having some problems, just got my 290x and saw that it doesn't have a dvi i adapter but a dvi d dual link in the back of it. I ran my previous card through the VGA to dvi conversion and connected to a VGA port on my LCD.

My current monitor has a dvi to hdmi connection which is what I plugged in the back of the 290x. I now have no signal whatsoever. I switched the viewing option on the monitor to hdmi but it still says no signal. Don't know what to do :(

Your monitor has a DVI to HDMI connection? What does that even look like? I think you're missing some kind of important detail here.

Not all DVI - HDMI setups work properly due to display signal properties, pinouts and parities.

Does the DVI port on the 290x not do DVI-I? Aka, does it have the 4 slots around the "spade" which transfer an analog VGA signal.

If so, your DVI-VGA adapter should work fine, regardless of it's single or double link. Just like your old setup.

My monitor has an hdmi connection. Dvi is in the back of the card. It's a dvi to hdmi connection, dvi being on the card and hdmi cable running to the monitor

Scrap the above... Just realized the cards don't have DLDVI-I ports :/

EDIT: is this for a second monitor? I mean, the 290x has an HDMI port AFAIK.

Then why not run an HDMI cable and skip the DVI stuff?

No single monitor. I connected the DVI D part to the card and ran the other HDMI port to the monitor. No signal :/
I checked all connections, fan spins, no error messages on my mobo, took the card out to re-seat it, nothing :(

Test the HDMI connection on your monitor by connecting it to some other HDMI device (your motherboard's HDMI would suffice). Basically make sure the input on your monitor works before blaming the 290x.

I connected everything back to my old 7850, though the HDMI to HDMI and it runs fine, just slightly windowed. 290x still wont display anything.

Just so I have everything down. I connected the 8 pin + 6 pin, connected the HDMI to the monitor and the card, and booted. No boot display image or any signal whatsoever. I doubt I am doing something wrong

Did you try both HDMI ports on the monitor? I've heard of motherboard BIOS issues sometimes causing no display output. Have you checked the Gigabyte forums to see if anyone else is having this issue with this card?

I have yes. My 7850 works just fine right now with either port on the monitor. 290X however not displaying anything on either one.

I searched before I made this thread, seeing as to how new the card is and not so many people have the same Mobo/Video combo, its hard to find anything.

I am guessing it could be a bad card...

The only way to be absolutely certain would probably be to put the 290X in a different PC, but that aside you've basically done everything you can do short of replacing the DVI-to-HDMI cable itself (in theory it shouldn't be an issue since it works with your older card, but sometimes...). Does the 290X's fan at least spin up when the machine powers on? I'm guessing you've tried both DVI ports on the card itself?

Yup the fan spins and it seems like the system actually boots up into windows because my keyboard flashes, but no video. I dont think it a DVI issue seeing as to how HDMI to HDMI works just fine with on board video and 7850.

reset MB BIOS? Switch to other video BIOS on the card? Try a new HDMI cable?

have you updated your Motherboard Bios?. how old it is?.. I know from a lot of friends with newly launched AMD cards they need to update Bios in order to make it work properly.

I forgot to mention I upgraded the BIOS earlier with no positive result, issue persists.

I know this is probably completely unrelated, but I have a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 and with a GTX 780, I also have the same issue with it. GTX 680, 660, 560Ti and an HD 7870 and 5870 worked and in my other Asus z77 builds the card/cards work. I would try on a different PC, preferably something non-Gigabyte.

Basically the guy lists an issue with his power supply where the 8 pin connection won't power on his card, not 290x, but his issue was fixed when he plugged two 6 pins into a dongle to 8 pin. Even that didn't work for me. I think I tried every possible thing out there besides a different system.

If you can't find another system to test it in then I would be returning the card since it just doesn't as intended. There shouldn't be any motherboard exceptions.

That's what I think I'll do. I never heard of a specific mobo not liking a certain card. I wonder it newegg will allow me to exchange for a different brand or even an nvidia card

There are issues with motherboards not working with a specific video card. Its a fact, not an opinion and is well documented on tech forums. That being said, I seriously doubt the card is defective but without another PC to test it in, you really don't have any choice but to return it.

I still think assuming your power supply is properly spec'd and connected properly, its a MB or video card BIOS issue, possibly even a setting in your BIOS that's causing the issue. Just don't be surprised if run into the same issue with another identical card. Another brand may or may not work, no way to know but trial and error.

i am honestly thinking of not doing WC at all and scrap it. I am also thinking about getting a 780gtx instead. the main game ill be playing is BF4. thoughts?
