I am equally torn over 16:9 and 16:10 (as I am sure many of us are). Right now I only have the budget for one monitor, I want it to function well for the two main things. My optimal monitor size is between 22" to 26", willing to spend no more than $400-500.

Regular PC Use: Internet browsing, work and school use, etc. Also should be future-proof for PC gaming so I do not want a 16:9 that will warp PC resolutions. Also I do not want my Xbox 360 games being warped, I do not mind letterboxing black bars at ALL.

For Xbox: HD is a must, however I do plan on connecting the Xbox via VGA cables. I play serious FPS games, so minimal to no input lag is mandatory. Games such as Halo 3 and COD, I want the closest thing to no input lag...

Movies are not very important to me.

Also as a side note I have read only a little bit about TN vs IPS, so far the issues with TN does not bother me, but if there are IPS panels in the 22" to 26" range that goes for $200-$600 I am willing to consider them. Suggestions are welcome but please no fanboys and arguments in this thread over which one is better!!

So far I have looked at these monitors but have the follow concerns:

Asus VW266h:
How does this monitor handle Xbox 360 gaming? It seems perfect for computer use and PC gaming, but how is the lag in FPS gaming with the Xbox? Also, does this monitor letterbox or stretch Xbox games? (I don't mind letterboxing at all, I would hate for it to stretch though). And for the VK266H how is the webcam on it, anyone? I can get the VW for a much lower price so I am considering buying a standalone webcam...

Viewsonic nx2232w:
The major concern with this monitor is that it is discontinued and I heard the input lag is high for Xbox gaming... but it has ideal resolution and TV function, so if I can find one would it be worth picking up?

Viewsonic vx2260wm:
Ideal Xbox 360 gaming monitor, but I am afraid it will not do well with PC function. It's 16:9 so will that cripple my PC experience?

All three of these monitors were released over a year ago, which seems dated to me in technology years. Any news on the newer models of these panels?

I know there are some Dell, HP, and NEC models around my price range but I do not know their model numbers or an infromation on them so any insight would be helpful.

HP 2509 my friend. As an Xbox 360 gamer and a PC gamer, I have found this big 25" screen to be awesome. Colors are bright and crisp, it has hdmi and dvi as well as vga, built in speakers if that suits you. Not the highest quality lcd by any means, but I have found it to be very enjoyable.

Newegg has it for $269, but if you have a Fry's near you, it's $259 there. A total steal in my opinion.

On that model its full 1080P. Have you run into and issues with the full HD resolution on your PC?

Also noticed that the G2G is 1 MS higher then most models I am looking at (3 MS vs 2 MS), for the average consumer is this difference in lag noticeable? How about for a hardcore fps gamer?

Anyone else? I know there's a lot of you that own these panels, any insight would be helpful..

16:9 will not cripple your PC experience....as long as you have good enough cards to drive games at those resolutions it will be no issue at all.

I am really concerned that I will lose realestate when playing on Xbox gaming.

since this monitor supports 1:1 pixel mapping does that mean it will show up exactly what a true 16:9 1080P monitor (what xbox 360, mainly halo 3 is suppose to be played at)? I do not mind black bars on the top and bottom at all.

Or will the image be exactly the same, slightly squished, noticeably squished, etc? and will I lose views from the right and left (whatever the amount is that 16:9 has over 16:10 due to its wider screen).

To which monitor are you referring, since you said "this monitor?" It's a little confusing for me, but I'll see if I can answer your question.

"1080p" & "Full HD" are the same thing, which means a 16:9 ratio of 1920x1080 pixels with progressive scan. 16:10 is 1920x1200 pixels, so if the monitor does not have "1:1 pixel mapping" or "aspect" modes, the image will be stretched vertically, though not an extreme amount depending on how sensitive you are. Also, most Xbox games are at 720p, not 1080p, and I believe that Halo 3 is also 720p, so "aspect" mode would be better than "1:1 pixel mapping" since you probably want to play your games at full screen instead of a smaller 1280x720 image in the middle of the screen.
