My SO is currently enrolled in a graphics design program and currently designs graphics for a clothing company on the side. She requires an entry level graphic design display (I'm assuming that $500-700 is considered entry level). I'd imagine basic requirements would be an extended color gamut, AdobeRGB support...

So far the only display I've determined to be an option that is available locally is the HP LP2475w or Dell U2410, and at this point I'm leaning heavily towards the HP.

Any other suggestions?

What media is she aiming for? Print, web, television?

An extended color gamut is important for print and other media, but actually a complicating factor for web design and most other digital work. For web, you want something that is either sRGB or emulates it well.

I would get the sRGB NEC 2490wuxi2 for digital work (if you can find it in the ~650 range, like at MacMall currently), don't have a strong opinion in this price range for any other medium. The PA241 can occasionally be had for ~ 700, and it has a decent emulation mode.

The wide gamut 24" monitors -- the u2410, the newish Asus 24" IPS, and the HP LP2475 -- all sort of blend together in my mind, though I don't own any of them and I honestly couldn't tell you their differences outside of connection options. The HP zr24 is sRGB.

In any case, you'll probably need to invest in a calibrator as well.

Yeah it'll be primarily for print. I guess I reached the same conclusion... at that price point most of the options seem to be very similar. I suppose I've been leaning towards the 2475 because I own a ZR24W and have no complaints...
