I tried updating Nvidia's display driver recently to the 190.63. When it got to "Installing driver components", the displayer driver crashed and then I got a BSOD. Every time windows booted up afterwards I got another BSOD. I had to boot in safe mode and remove the display driver to start windows normally. Afterwards I tried updating to the version before 190.63, another BSOD, repeat the process. After that I decide to just go back to the version I was using before, 186. Well, this BSODed too. I tried every version and they all BSODed. I haven't found anything that will fix the problem. I've searched and no one else seems to be having this problem. I eventually reformatted because I was so frustrated, surely this would work. I update the driver to the working version I had, and it still BSODed. At this point I'm starting to the think the card itself could be defunct, but it works fine as long as I don't try to update the display driver.

Have you disabled the onboard VGA ? In the BIOS under Chipset / AMD 780 Configuration / Internal Graphics Configuration / Internal Graphics Mode <- set Disable.
