Display corruption in Duplicate and Extend modes

I have my 5850 hooked up to a monitor and LCD TV. If I select duplicate mode, then my monitor has this odd flickering/corruption in the bottom section. I thought this was a monitor issue, as I noticed it starting when I got my monitor replaced.

However, yesterday I put my comp into extend mode, and now the TV had the same flickering in the same area, but the monitor was fine.

I put my 5850 back to stock clocks, but the flickering remains. Is this a graphics card issue?
 
Hm afterburner and gpu-z are reporting 157, which seems too low.
 
Yes 157mhz with two monitors attached is what causes this issue. In recent drivers this was changed so the idle speed rose to 500mhz with two displays attached, which fixed the problem. Which driver are you using?

I'm on 11.1. Was it fixed in 11.1a?

It was meant to have been fixed as far back as 10.6. You can try 10.10e and 10.12a and see how you get on with those.
 
I got the replacement monitor when I was using 10.11, but I'll try going to 10.10e. I wonder if afterburner is the issue (am using the latest version)?
 
Looks like it is afterburner causing the issue after all. Idle is 400 when its closed and there is no flickering. I guess I'll try a bios mod or something, as I can't find a fix for afterburner
 
Afterburner's quite poor for stuff like this IMO, it's quite buggy and often causes problems with clock speeds not being what they should be.
 
The nice part of it was the ability to increase the voltage, which let me get much higher clocks on my 5850 than before. It seems I can do that within the BIOS itself, so I'll be trying that
