so i just built a new 2008 server for home use and learning. im going to run a few vms. one vm is my old 2003 server. right now im running disk2vhd on the 2003 server. It looks like its going to take all night because its transfering the .vhd to a old celeron 2.8 whs server with usb storage, only spot i have room right now.

once this is done, I just basicly import this .vhd image? Ive never done this and i cant wait! disk2vhd had a checkbox about "import to vitual server". should I have checked that? I left it unchecked since im importing to hyper v and not vserver.
 
Its not quite just an import. The VHD image is basically the hard drive, you still have to build a virtual machine around it. Assuming you're running Hyper-V, you just create a new virtual machine, choose not to install anything yet, and replace the vhd the wizard created by the one you got from your disk2vhd.

Keep in mind you also will need to reset ip configuration and stuff, seen as your hardware will be different and won't remember those settings.
