I have two maxtor 80gb disks. One is 2 years old and another 1 year. Both are "Maxtor 6Y080L0" models.

Teperature of the old one goes up to 56°C when copying!!!! How bad is that???

Temp. of the newer disk goes only up to 48°C when copying.

Any advices??

thats pretty hot for hard disks

is it hot or very warm when you touch them? im betting those temps are totally off

there are three basic temeperature ranges for electronics equipment, called commercial, 0ºC to 70ºC, the next rage is industrial from -40ºC to +85ºC and military from -55ºC to +115ºC. every consumer electronic should work at least within the commerial range, anything what cannot do that needs to be marked. unless the tempereature exceeds 70ºC, i wouldn't worry too much.

The cooler the longer it will last. Large companies with centralized EQPT spend millions on cooling, and they cool everything, not just a processor chip.

Doesn't sound horrible, but I'd consider putting it somewhere in the case with better cooling.

yesterday was very hot outside, but today teperatures dropped (i think it is going to rain)
well I have installed one fan (3000rpm) to cool disks and now temperatures wont go over 40°C.

I dont know if it is because it is colder outside or because of fan but I think that is quite a drop. :D
