So previously i had an old ati 9700 non pro and recently bought a ati x800xt.

i assumed since it used the same drivers i wouldnt have to uninstall the catalyst drivers.
so i take out the old agp 9700 and put in the new x800xt. gave me a boot disk failure/disk read error. i tried swapping back to the old agp card. same error. tried making sure all of the cables were in tight, doesnt seem like there is anything wrong ;/.

pc worked fine right before turning it off to install the new vid card

my pc
nforce3 k8n neo2
a64 4000+
1gb ram
40gb ide hd (this is the one failing)
80gb sata hd

come again? YOU HAVE AN 1800XT!!!?? OMG SWEET!!!!! ok anyways, yeah you've gotta uninstall the drivers and install them again when changing the hardware device.

Ive gone back and forth while working on my system between a 9600XT, a 9800 pro, a 9800XT and an X800XT-PE.....Not once have I changed drivers..I user the Omega's and just let the device manager detect the card, they are the same for ALL Radeon cards,,,,
I would say that there is something else going on here...Disk boot failure means that the HD is not showing up..Or your NTLDR file is corrupted...

Clear your CMOS...see if that helps...

so it turns out my HD just so happen to die out..completely random. it was only 3 years old pretty lame. and no, i said i have a x800xt... not 1800xt
