Disk Imaging Software (Ghost, etc.)

However, in reality, I don't believe it really matters unless you want to use some of the advanced server features.

Actually, almost all of the imaging software will check OS version before creating images to enforce lisencing.

Yeah, I think that, in addition to the fact that the Workstation version isn't exchange-aware, really makes the choice pretty obvious. Can we get some sort of consensus here that that piece of software, in addition to an external backup drive (or two to switch 'em out and have one in a different location), and regularly scheduled windows backups of the exchange store, are probably the best option in my particular situation? :)

Looking at Acronis True Image, it looks like at least a comparable, if not superior product to Norton Ghost. In my particular case of a very simple single-server setup with MSE2000, would the Workstation version most likely do what I need it to do, or do I need to convince my organization to spend more than the computer is worth for the Server version?

*edit: I mean more than the computer hardware is worth. I know the software/everything that we use the server for is worth many times over the price of the Server version of Acronis: I just need to have a solid argument for the Server version vs. the Workstation version :)

Yes you got my vote for this plan. It's the best with 2 external drives (1 for on-site and 1 brought somewhere else and updated regularly).

Nate7311, I wasn't aware it checks the OS version so i will retract my last comment :)

It definitely sounds sufficient for what you need; just be sure to test a recovery once you get it in place... surprises are nice, but not when you're trying to recover a mission critical server.
