disk density Vs data speed question

i was asked by my dad's boss to fix his 800MHz PIII, because it wouldn't start,
i simply got it to boot by removing a faulty USB card, fair enough.
a few days later the boss wanted his computer faster, so i stuck XP on it,
i noticed the install to finish in less than 4min's, booted xp in no time.

my pc takes longer to boot and even longer to install (1 hour avg),
after using a ramdisk tool to create a temporary ramdisk on my pc,
i decided it was the disk at fault.

i'm using Sata, and my dad's boses pc is IDE,
could this just be down the density of the disks or something else?

it's the same as with my past 200GB and 500GB sata disks,
i'm now at 1TB, and my dad's boses pc is 40GB*

*BTW he dosn't need much space anyway as he only uses it for typwriting.
also his PC obviously can't play medium/high end games like mine.

4 min XP install? It takes 4 mins to load up the XP installation screen.
