I just built a new computer, and, i'm trying to install Windows XP Pro OS onto the machine by CD, and we're trying all these different ways to fix this problem, (note: i'm using a DVD-RW to read the CD, does that matter?) we changes jumper configurations, we changed Boot Sequence in the BIOS, does anyone know how to fix this problem? The message reads: "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" (i press enter then nothing happens) please respond ASAP

not to sound like a ass, but do you have everything pluged in ok, (dvd-rom, ide cable pluged in on 2ndary master, hard drive into primary master, jumpers set to master or stand alone what ever you need) do you have a flopy drive pluged in, and if so, is there a disk in it..

after that try the boot order with the dvd rom as the only boot device... if that doesnt work, Id eitrher try a difrent cd, or a difrent drive, like tosing in a cd rom that you know works

good luck

I got this just over the weekend when I tried to boot up an old RAID array, gave up and then tried to reinstall with a CD. I reset all the bios settings to CD only boot, but I think the cmos was still trying to boot the HDs. You need to not only reset the bios, but ALSO clear the cmos jumper. Take out the battery for good measure. Remember to put the jumper back or you will get nothing. Once you do this it should start booting the CD.

maybe try flashing your bios to the latest version (that is if you havent done so already or its already loaded). that may help.
