The past week I've started getting this error on my pc during boot up (3 or 4 times so far). I can bypass this by rebooting again 1 or 2 times then windows continues to load.

My instincts tells me it's the hard drive because I do hear what sounds like a little bit of grinding. I checked the BIOS and ensured HD is set to first boot. I went to Seagate's website, ran the "Drive Self Test" and "File System Check" tests with no errors reported.

Is this a known issue with Seagate Harddrives? Im re-formatting my PC this weekend because Im giving it to my girlfriend, and wonder if this may fix it.

i had this problem for a while because i had a IDE set as master and a sata2 drive
i installed my system to the sata drive but i got htat error on every reboot.
i finally wen into the bios and i set the the specific sata drive to boot before the IDE master drive
worked for me, not sure if this is what you need
 
if your HDD is grinding or clicking bad and this is happening. do your self a favor and back up your data and get a clean hardrive for install.prolly cost you like 80 bucks.
 
I only notice a little grinding during boot up.

The harddrive is still under warranty, but I guess Ill have to call Seagate before I can find out if they think it's the problem for them to replace it.
 
if its stil that new then i woudl still back up my data and try a reformat. possible corrupt windows file or bad sector on disk. either way back up now before its too late.
 
well that grinding could also be the low amount of memory in the system (disk caching/trashing). i would use seagates drive utility and find out if the drive is dying or not.


maybe a mod can move this threat to the disk forum where it would get more help?
