Well, I couldnt figure out for the life of me why my Acronis true Image files would say corrupt after imaging them, so I tried Norton and another program that I cant remember, and both of those gave me errors also, the last one forcing a reinstall.
Well I just figured out the cause of the problem. Normally, I have TI image my C drive to my E drive (80gb to 250gb) for a full image of my OS disk in an event of a failure. Recently TI started telling me my archive was corrupt, so i did a little experiment.
I did a normal image of my C drive to my E drive, and result is corrupt.
I did a normal image of my C drive to my C drive, and result is...Suprise!! NOT corrupt.
So I copied the non-corrupt image from my c drive of my c drive to my e drive (got that?
), and check the crc comparing the 2. Seems that the CRCs are different, and since the C drive's image is valid, and the E drive's image wasent, then that means somehow in the path from my C to E drive (through my SATA controller) the file is becomming corrupt.
Now, I have notcied corruption of my large rar files on my E drive, but that was at least a month ago, and now while still some corrupt, because I havent re-downloaded them, no more are becomming corrupt. But I believe only large files become corrupt since none of my mp3s were bad or anything. Now this 250gb is my 2500KS, and I've heard stories that the only way these drives seem to be failing (most of the time) is when they start corrupting data.
I'm not sure if the drive needs an RMA, or if theres another problem here. Would copying the image from my external drive (having a valid image there) to my 250 show weather its my SATA controller or not? Wouldnt that show the 250gb is corrupting?
Thanks for the read! Hoping I can resolve this.
